Mental Health and Wellbeing
Our Goal
At Whiteheath our intention is to promote positive mental health and to encourage all children to recognise and discuss their feelings and emotions in a trusted environment. We aim to incorporate mental health awareness into the curriculum and encourage children through lessons, workshops and outside speakers to explore ways in which to improve their own mental health.
Emphasis is placed on introducing children to ways in which their mental wellbeing can be enhanced such as mindfulness and meditation and these life skills are to be incorporated into the curriculum to ensure all children are able to access them regardless of difference.
We incorporate daily, age appropriate meditation sessions into the curriculum such as the ones below:
Throughout the school day, the children are encouraged to complete mindfulness journals which help them to recognise their feelings and pay close attention to positive things that may have occurred throughout their time in school. This allows them to explore their feelings and emotions and find/be introduced to ways to cope with negative ‘stuff’ and be grateful for the positive ‘stuff.’
