We aim to make the first year at Whiteheath Junior School an enjoyable experience that pupils will remember giving them an exciting introduction to Key Stage 2 learning.
Educational topics include studying The Stone Age, Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece culminating in workshops and themed days where children take part in activities to enhance their learning. We also carry out a local study of Ruislip, visiting the local area to examine its geographical context.
We have a varied range of Design and Technology topics, including Sandwich Making, designing new chocolate boxes and making bridges. Lots of artistic opportunities are offered through work on cave paintings using pastels and clay, Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, the symbolism of colours and mixing primary colours into secondary and tertiary as well as the symbolism found in Renaissance art.
This is an extremely enjoyable year for the children and it is wonderful to see them growing into more mature and independent members of the Junior School.
